Diaper Cake Challenge & The Saison

 Diaper Cake Challenge

My friend was having her baby shower and I have always seen people make diaper cakes, but have never attempted to make one.  With a bunch of leftover newborn diapers from my now 4 month old, I set out to make a diaper cake for her.

I rolled 60 new born diapers and used rubber bands to hold the roll.

I then used the top of a gift box as the base.  I used E-6000 super glue to place a paper towel roll in the center.  This will help with building the tower of diapers.  You can also use a disposable cake stand as the base.

I wanted to add some extras into the diaper cake like onesie's, bottle, breastfeeding cover, baby cream.  I first wrapped the breastfeeding cover around the paper towel roll with rubber bands securing it.  The began to fill the rolled diapers into the first layer of the cake.

I made one layer around the paper towel roll, then use white ribbon to secure it.   Then circled the paper towel roll again, until the first layer was finished.

The second layer was mostly diapers, but I was able to put in some rolled onesie's and 4 oz bottles.  It gets a little harder to balance all the items, so a extra set of hands is always helpful.  After you make each layer use white ribbon around the whole layer to secure it.

I made the final layer all onesie's.  To hide the white ribbon I used to secure the layers, I used a thicker more decorative ribbon to hide the white ribbon and to add some flare to the cake.  I made the ties in the back.

You can also add anything you would like as the "cake topper".  I used baby shoes, because they were just too cute.  I was not able to secure them to the cake, so I placed them on the cake on the day of the event.

Final product. The mother to be really enjoyed it.  And we played "Guess How Many Diapers?' at the shower.  Since the whole cake was not all diapers it add an extra challenge.

Beer Review

The Hillards Saison

Hilliards Brewery is one of my favorite breweries.  They only serve their beers in tall boys and this places is about a 20 minute walk from my house.  The Saison is a light refreshing beer that has 6.6% ABV.  It is a perfect beer for a hot summer day.
